  • Let's just survive this damned year, shall we?

The walls of my new home are painted white, void of any decoration.

Call me cynical if you like, but I'm not in the mood to do the 'Looking back at 2011' kind of thing. I think I've written short entries of self-reflection on some of the pervious new-year days but now I think it's unconstructive and time-wasting to look back on what I can't change. 2011 is gone, and just like the boring white walls, there's not much to talk about it, now that a new year has come.

The Green Guy is just too damned right. 'Happy new year', just like its other fellow greetings, have long become cliches. You just can't be sure the person will be happy the whole year. In fact you can be sure at some point they'll be upset. However if you say 'happy new year' just to mean you wish the person will enjoy the moment right after the arrival of the new year, I think that's totally acceptable. That's the only occasion where 'happy new year' may stop being a cliche.

I may be cynical, pedantic and assertive but life's too short that I can't lose myself in reminiscence. I can foresee that 2012 will force me to make a few critical choices but, as they say, I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. Let's just stay focused and stay alive, shall we?
